Mr. Long will discuss the key role that
Ontario Power Generation expects nuclear power to play in it’s pursuit of
financial success. His presentation
will cover a number of perspectives on this topic, including
·
the contribution that nuclear operations
make to OPG today;
·
the critical role of the ongoing nuclear recovery and the return
of Pickering A in OPG’s commercial
objectives; and
·
the increasing importance of credible
forecasts and realistic performance plans to both management and the investment
community.
Fred Long was appointed to the position of
Vice President, Financial Planning for Ontario Power Generation Inc. in April,
1999. Mr. Long is responsible for
directing the company’s financial and business planning, management reporting,
and financial assessment of investment opportunities.
Mr. Long joined Ontario Hydro in 1976 in the Nuclear Generation Division as a Nuclear Trainee. Since 1980, he has worked in Corporate Finance and has held numerous positions where he has been responsible for short-term and long-term financial planning, financial policy and strategy, and operational audits. Prior to his current position, Mr. Long was Director of Financial Strategy, where he played a leadership role in the financial restructuring of Ontario Hydro into its successor companies.
During his career, Mr. Long represented Ontario
Hydro at a number of Public Hearings including Electricity Rate Cases,
assessment of the Demand Supply Plan, review of Ontario Hydro International,
and a review of the concept for long-term management of used nuclear fuel. Mr. Long has also represented Canada in a
study of the economics of nuclear waste management undertaken by the
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Born in London, England, Mr. Long obtained an
Honours of Bachelor of Arts Degree (physics) from Essex University (1970) and
his Ph.D. in physics from McMaster University (1976).
