ABSTRACT

The primary safety concern at nuclear plants is the radiological hazard. A growing concern (employee & public) at OPG,N nuclear sites is the chemical hazard. Risk Assessment/Risk Management has evolved into the state-of-the-art process for managing risks associated with radiological, chemical and other hazards.

Speaker's Biography

Marcello Oliverio is currently the Acting Section Manager in the Consequence & Special Studies section of PRAD. He holds Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto.

Marcello worked in the Risk Management and Safety Engineering fields for about 16 years - the last 10 with OH/OPG. Prior to joining OH he participated in numerous risk assessment projects in the chemical and allied industries. He has been a member of MIACC's Risk Assessment Expert Committee (Major Industrial Accident Council of Canada), helping formulate chemical risk guidelines that are currently widely used across Canada.

In his present position within OPG,N, Marcello has periodically undertaken chemical risk assessments that have addressed both worker safety and public safety concerns.
