Utilization of renewable energy generation is one of the keys to creating and maintaining a sustainable electricity supply to the growing population of the world today. The Probyn Group of private companies is one of Canada's most innovative energy sector organizations, providing financing for a wide range renewable technologies including windpower, biomass, biogas and small hydro. As well, the first "Green Energy" sales in Canada via the first "EcoLogo" certified power station is operated by the Probyn Group, along with a current total of 220 MW of additional generating capacity across North America. Clean, reliable, low-cost electricity alternatives to "the grid" are possible for both major commercial and industrial customers though Probyn Energy Solutions access to world leading Distributed Generation technologies.
The power of the wind is one major vehicles to achieve a sustainable, near greenhouse gas emitting free source of electricity. The Probyn group is currently taking part in five major wind turbine projects in Canada and the United States totaling over 330 MW installed generation capacity and over $272 million (CAN) in financing. In his talk, Mr. Probyn will discuss the progress his company has made in these endeavours and what the future may hold for wind and other renewable sources of power.
Stephen Probyn, founder and Chairman of The Probyn Group, is regarded as one of Canada's leading experts in the energy sector and project finance. In his early career, he worked for 15 years as an advisor to governments in the U.K. and Canada on energy policy, before moving to one of Canada's leading investment banks as Vice President, Project Finance. Stephen served from 1993 to 1995 as President of the Independent Power Producers' Society of Ontario (IPPSO), the largest industry association of its kind in Canada. Appointed by the Ontario Government to the Electricity Market Design Committee in 1998, he now serves on a number of federal and provincial committees on market regulation and environmental issues. Educated at Queen's University, the London School of Economics and Harvard University, Stephen is an officer and director of all of The Probyn Group companies.
