Call For Papers

Following the highly successful 13th conference held at Kingston in 2016, the 14th International Conference on CANDU Fuel will once again bring together international experts of the nuclear fuel industry involved in design, R&D, fabrication, operation, fuel modelling, safety analysis and regulation. Under the theme of Powering a Greener Future with Advanced Fuel Cycles, papers are solicited for the following categories:

  1. International Experiences for CANDU Fuel: Summary of national programs for CANDU fuel development, and of CANDU fuel operations and related issues
  2. Fuel Performance and Operational Experiences: Fuel behaviour under normal operating conditions, failed fuel detection and location, fuel inspections, station experiences, PIE studies/techniques/facilities.
  3. Fuel Safety: Licensing issues, fuel safety criteria, accident analysis, fuel behaviour at high temperature, fission-gas release, experiments and simulations.
  4. Fuel Design & Development: Modifications to fuel designs, quality assurance in fuel design and development, MOX, DUPIC, slightly enriched uranium (SEU), recovered uranium (RU), thoria-based fuels, SCWR fuel, economical and societal implications of fuel cycles.
  5. Fuel Code Development: Predictive capability for thermal, mechanical, irradiation and fission-gas release behaviour under NOC, DBA, and design extension conditions.
  6. Fuel Fabrication: Fuel manufacturing experiences, advances in manufacturing & inspection technologies, quality assurances, fuel manufacturing issues and improvements.
  7. Fuel Management: Fuel management schemes, load following, fuel physics analysis, specific operational problems.
  8. Fuel Bundle Thermalhydraulics: Reactor aging issues, CHF and CCP assessment and enhancement, fuel thermalhydraulics simulation and testing.
  9. Spent Fuel Management: Fuel handling technology, spent fuel storage, in-storage fuel behaviour.
  10. Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Fuel: Advances in SMR fuel, fuel fabrication issues, quality assurances, material handling, predictive methods, experiments.
  11. Accident Tolerant Fuel: Design options, benefits and challenges, R&D on material selection for pellet or sheath/cladding, experimental and analytical studies.
  12. Light Water Reactor (LWR) Fuel: Advances in LWR fuel design and operation. New LWR fuel licensing and regulatory requirements. Lessons learned applicable to CANDU fuel.
