A Night Out for Nuclear! with Jacques Plourde

April 3, 2017 @ 12:00 am

Speaker:           Jacques Plourde, Past President of the CNS

Date/Time:        Monday, April 3rd, 7:00 pm – Onwards…

Location:           Phoenix Bar and Grill, 1280 Main Street West, Hamilton, ON.

Event Summary

“A Night Out for Nuclear!” will offer attendees three VERY short courses on: (1) how nuclear power works; (2) what you should know about radiation; and (3) about Jacques’ career in nuclear, in three ~20 minute segments. Between each segment, the crowd is encouraged to ask questions as this is meant to be an Interactive Q&A Evening to learn about nuclear science, while enjoying a drink! Jacques is also a very social man and would be happy to sit with your table to go into some more detail about how nuclear science works after his presentations. After the three segments, there will also be a round of trivia (based on Jacques presentation slides), and the top teams will be awarded a free appetizer for their table!

Speaker Biography

Mr. Plourde is a Franco-Ontarian with engineering degrees from UNB Fredericton, NB.  He has over 40 years of experience in the Canadian nuclear industry, a career that started in Public Relations and R&D at Chalk River, to move on to nuclear operations at Ontario Hydro/OPG.  He had the benefit of very diverse assignments ranging from training, commissioning, project management and authorized shift supervisor, to work management, strategic planning and performance improvement.

Most of Jacques’ time these days involves engineering consultant work for the Nuclear Insurance Association of Canada, where he leads a team of experts evaluating risk at Canadian nuclear facilities.  Jacques joined the CNS in 1979 when he had the pleasure of signing its Charter, and has been active as Branch Chair (Darlington), Division Chair (Nuclear Ops & Mtce), and recently President.  He has now stepped down from Council to focus his volunteer time with the CNS on its Strategic Plan and on the new Durham Region Branch where he is Co-Chair.
